Cazaril, my Maine Coon/Tabby rescue cat, has been seriously annoyed with me lately. I think it’s all the travel — he really doesn’t like being left home with just Nimue for company.

So he’s been trying to get me up several times a night. To play with him. (How I know this is, I made the mistake of getting up once, because I thought I’d forgotten to feed him. I hadn’t. He ran into the living room and stood over the feather toy expectantly. At 3 a.m. Darned cat. Yes, I know it was dumb to encourage him.)

He has also figured out that if he walks on the buttons of the scanner/printer/photocopier, it will make all sorts of interesting noises and get my attention. I finally unplugged it.

And in the middle of working on a difficult transition scene yesterday, I heard this little metallic *clink*. I looked around. There’s Caz, standing on the file cabinet behind me, looking innocent. I type. *clink* Again with the innocence. I pretend to type while sort of looking back over my shoulder, and this time I catch him…very deliberately and carefully pushing my double-pointed knitting needles onto the floor, one at a time. (I’ve been knitting socks lately; you need five double-pointed needles for that. I’d finished the first of a pair the day before, while staring grumpily at the computer screen trying to figure out how to avoid writing that transition scene I mentioned. I hate doing transitions.)

He looked really hurt when I picked all the needles up and stuck them through the yarn, so he couldn’t just shove them around. And then he came over and bashed and purred and walked on the keyboard. Silly beast.

  1. It could’ve been rats. They keep you up by drinking noisily from their water bottle, nibbling on dry pasta, and wrestling & squeaking till all hours of the morning. Then they look at you and you feel sooo guilty you have to let them up, at which point they hide under your bed for half an hour(*always* when you’re just about to be late for something imporant), gnaw on your stuff, and pee on you.
    Gosh they’re cute though!

  2. We had a cat that if you fed him the wrong food at night would drop it piece by piece off the counter, but he would wait until we had turned off the all the lights and gone to bed. 😉

  3. Ahhhhh, yes. I think cats find knitting as entertaining as we do…. but for different reasons.

  4. you could be describing my cat! at this very minute, holly jumped from the dining room table to the couch onto my dog to the floor. knocking over my empty cup in the prosses. cats, i thought were supposed to be clean animals. *sigh*

    • Eff- The *cats* are clean; it’s everything *else* that’s up for grabs. 🙂
